  • How many tracks can you run on a G5?

Has anybody analysed the difference in the 2, 2.3 and 2.5GHz G5 dual core processor machines? I want to know how much difference it is going to make when you use these for Logic pro, Reason etc (basically, musical production). If anybody has tracks, effects count, it will help make a decision.

Probably the best idea is to go to a specific forum for the software you're interested in and post a question there, or use the Search function.

        Logic, for example...

Mostly this was my lame attempt at humor. However, The lowest config G5 will likely be able to handle most of what you throw at it. I have the first dual 2.0 G5 that was was least over two years ago. I haven't really had any issue with track count.

              And there's so many variables.

Do you have a 2nd audio-only hard drive, have you optimized the OS as best you can, eliminated unnecessary processes running, # of ins/outs enabled, etc, etc ?

Which software and softsynths you use? Something like Reaktor will use as much juice as 3 or 4 instances of Absynth, for example. On and on....

Everyone gets different results. It's just the way it is.
