  • cheapest place to buy RAM for 15" Titanium G4 PowerBook?

i'm running my stock 512k and it's not liking lots of tracks and plugins in DP4.6, so i'd like to upgrade to at least 768k....i did find this at the site where i bought my external hard drive, but i'm wondering if there's another place that i can get something comparable for less.

I doubt that more ram wil improve your track or plugin count. A single processor G4 is just not powerful enough to get a high track/plugin count.

What processor are you running, and what kind of performance (track and plugin counts) are you getting now? Are you trying to run lots of time based plugins, ie reverbs, delays, etc? They are massive ram hogs, and will suck your track count down quickly. Use buss sends to a single reverb rather than put the same reverb on several tracks, you gain tons of performance.

More RAM isn't going to hurt, but don't expect it to dramatically increase your performance.

            i've got a 1GHz G4

i'm using DP4.6 in Tiger....i'm doing ok with around 10 tracks (i think 3 or 4 of which are stereo), and they've pretty much all got plugins on them....the thing is, i've gotta add another few tracks for vocals, and there are currently only two tracks using the same reverb preset, so i'm not sure how much bussing will help, but i'll experiment.

10 tracks (i think 3 or 4 of which are stereo)

So that would be a total of 14 tracks. You got something seriously wrong. Are you runnning your audio files on your system drive? If so, that's a big part of your problem. Get a FW drive (7200rpm/8mb cache drive, Oxford 911 or 922 chipset) and move all your DP sessions to that. Your track and plugin count will go up massively.

Use an aud buss for that reverb, they are total power hogs.

You should easily get 24-32 tracks all with eq and compression and a few good bussed reverbs with no problem.

i'm running all the audio files off of an external hard drive, and that's where everything is being saved.....i'll experiment with bussing some of the plugins, see what more i can get out of it
