My Mac will be here any day now. What difference is there between GarageBand & Tracktion?? I'm sure interfaces are quite different, but does Tracktion have a better mix bus, or more professional features or 'feel' to it??
I was planning on simply working with GarageBand until I upgraded to Logic after the 1st of the year.

    Thanks,

    T. Alan

Ugh, traction sucks compared to live. The interface totally sucks. Good thing it was free!

Could you elaborate? I saw that Echo's new interfaces ship with Tracktion, and it looked promising. It has to be better than the horrible Cubasis OEM that came with the Layla24 I bought a couple years ago.

From what I understand, Live operates under a different paradigm than, say, Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, and other mainstay DAW's, so it might not serve as a good point of comparison.

TRACKTION AIN'T TOO BAD... THERE IS A PRETTY STEEP LEARNING CURVE (EASY TO LEARN), AND EVERYTHING IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU, THERE'S JUST NO SEPARATE MIXER, WHICH PERSONALLY I THINK IS A REALLY GOOD IDEA.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRACTION AND GARAGE BAND? TRACKTION CAN USE VST PLUGINS, GARAGE BAND CANNOT.

BUT PLEASE NOTE: TRACKTION CURRENTLY DOES NOT SUPPORT AUDIO UNITS... BUT IT'S FREE! SO WHAT RIGHT DOES ANYONE HAVE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT?

KEEP IN MIND THAT TRACKTION USED TO COST AROUND 80 DOLLARS, AND NOW IT'S FREE.

I actually bought Tracktion about a year ago, way before it was distributed by Mackie. It was originally owned by a little company called Raw Materials software made by a cool dude named Jules. I thought the coolest thing about Tracktion when I bought it was that Jules would always be reading the Tracktion forum and people would have a comment about something and he would fix it and release a new version.
Name a software product with THAT kind of support! You go straight to the writer himself!
Anyway, I'm pretty shocked that it is now offered for FREE! Heck, I thought it was a decent deal at $80.
I'm using logic now, but I am in complete support of Tracktion and anyone without an audio software program that wants to try it out would be an IDIOT to not download it for FREE!!
Seriously, why even think about it??
believe me, it's worth a 5 minute download if you don't have anything else.

I would say that the biggest novelty of garageband is the assortment of audio and midi loops, similar to the ACID style. You don't really get anything extra in tracktion except a decent EQ and some other crappy plugs (along with the worst reverb I have ever heard). But hey, can't complain.
It supports VST and I had a DX wrapper that worked awesome. I liked the interface a lot. It was a bit unstable with audio issues at times, but overall worked well for me. It is very "drag and drop" which makes it super easy to use and very visual. I wouldn't call it ultra-professional, but it certainly has an attractive look to it.
So, in the end, I'm glad I now use Logic, but Tracktion isn't anything to scoff at. Even if you already have garageband, try out tracktion because it is very different, and damn, FREE!
