  • Soundcard for PowerBook

I've got a 1 Ghz 17" PB that I want to start recording on. Right now I have GB and Reason, and intend to get a more advanced sequencer at some point. I want to know if I need to get a better soundcard at all. I've heard some things about the processing being offloaded to the soundcard, so it runs faster, and that it'll sound better. But I've also seen a lot of things that just look like they're used to get an analog signal into the computer. The vast majority of my stuff is all in MIDI, and right now I'm using a simple USB controller. I also want to record some audio tracks on (vocals), but only one at a time. What's the best thing for me right now? Will a new soundcard make anything better, or do I just need a pre-amp to get my mic to work with the line-in? I can spend 300 bucks, though I doubt I'd need something even that expensive Thanks for any help.
