  • Help on Pro Tools free please

I've been running this program since June with relatively few problems. I've recently developed a glitch in my system which turns the mic input to none every time I reboot.

My problem is that I can't import audio into PT free anymore. Last night I tried to import an AIF file using the Import Audio feature and it creates a track but there is no audio on the track. I'm thinking that the glitch changed my PT preferences or turned off something that is key to importing audio files. Anyone know what I should be looking for or can do to fix the problem? Thanks.

    Hi Jack,
I would just say that it might be a better idea to just do a re-install of PT free, rather than figure that one out. It sounds a little wierd to me...

If I do that should I trash the version on my hard drive first and then re-install?

        Hi Jack,
Yes, exactly that. Just make sure that you have your songs and audio files saved somewhere else.

Thanks musictech! I just re-installed PT free, still couldn't import the audio file I was trying to but I converted a different file to AIF and imported it successfully. That leads me to believe that the file that wasn't working is somehow corrupted.

One way to tell would be to try to preview the track using the "play" button at the bottom of the import audio dialog.

If it's corrupted or otherwise can't be imported, PT will tell you so at that point.
