  • Splitting HD b/w OS, Samples, DAW Sessions still relevant w/ USB3 & Thunderbolt?

I did a search and saw that this was not posted.

I know most believe the ideal set up is a separate harddrive for OS files, Sample files, and DAW Session files.

I want to bring up the issue of laptops, where most of us can really only utilize one external HD for logistic purposes.

With the advent of USB3 and Thunderbolt SSD drives (I just bought an SSD tb/usb3 external), is it still necessary to split the Sample Files and the DAW session files on separate hardrives or can we combine those into one.

The setup would be OS on the laptop internal, and DAW session/Sample files on the lone external SSD running either USB3 or TB.

Anyone have any expertise to chime in here?
