  • Looking for a decent firewire soundcard for live, many in/outputs!

So, I'm looking for advice on a decent firewire soundcard interface for live use. I currently have the M-Audio Profire 410, which is great and everything, but has been a bit flaky in a live situation.

Ideally my replacement needs to have :

    firewire

    at least 4 inputs

    at least 8 outputs

Vocal preamps, that'd be nice too. Any contenders....?

First you need to find out why the Profire is flakey, otherwise swapping interfaces may only leave you with the same problems.

    What is it doing?

The most common problem with firewire interfaces is the firewire chipset in the computer.

TexasInstruments chips are the ONLY ones you want to use with audio interfaces.

(you can find out by going to the device manager and clicking on the IEE-1394 tab)

An inexpensive Belkin or SIIG card with TI chipset is often all that is needed....
