Agressive kids are taught to develop menial skills in a remedial model of accomplishment. What you get is a mass of motivated but domesticated doers who are fit for modern stress. Your higher math prof might get 100 k a year while some new assistant coach signed on at 1 mil starting. It's not all the conquerors fault either. The industry people keep raising and besides nobody can afford to eat any more, musical instruments are ridiculously out of the market.
