Members New Trail
Sax newbie here! I want to try to learn Tenor Sax and I have come to realize how expensive they are! What can I get, if anything, for $1000 or so that would be decent enough to learn on and play early gigs with (assuming I can learn it, that is!)? Thanks! Members sunburstbasser
New, I don't know of any tenor sax in the $1000 range that is very well-regarded. If you go used, you can get older Conn saxophones for around that price, and even Conn's worst instruments are still playable and can be repaired if and when they need it. Members Notes_Norton
For a little more you can get a MacSax classic. It's not only a great sax for the money, it's a great sax. I own one (note: I have no connection to MacSax, I'm just a happy customer). http://www.macsax.com/ Notes ♫
Members New Trail
Well, not knowing anything about Tenor Saxes, I purchased a used one from a local mom & pop music store. It in in good condition and will get me started. It is a Buescher BU-5. The owner of the store is someone who I've known and dealt with for a long time and who I consider a friend, and whose band I have gigged with, so I felt pretty comfortable in taking his recommendation. Members Notes_Norton
If buying a used sax, take an experienced sax player with you. It's easy to by a dog if you don't know what to look for. Notes ♫
