nope...just stating that anyone can get an endorsement from a respected virtuoso.

There's a difference between an endorsement and actually playing with somebody and making records with them. Garcia was very respected in bluegrass circles, and he played with some of the best, and always held his own.

Your posts reek of "the Dead were talentless hippies" cliched ignorance. You'd probably be best off to not talk about bluegrass or Jerry, since it's pretty clear you don't really know much about either.

Here's a list of songs by CCR that were in steady rotation on the radio at the heigth of their popularity:

Have You Ever Seen The Rain?
            Green River
            Proud Mary
            Run Through The Jungle
            Born On The Bayou
            Suzi Q
            Lookin' Out My Back Door
            Up Around The Bend
            Fortunate Son
            Travelin' Band
I Heard It Through The Grapevine
            Hey Tonight
            Bad Moon Rising
            Sweet Hitchhiker

There's 14 that I can think of off the top of my head--now let's see the list for The Heartbreakers or Guns n Roses.

The only other American band as prolific at producing hits as CCR was the Beach Boys.

              This might set a record for the most things wrong in the fewest words, at least for a post not by darial :-}

The rock influences (Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Beatles, etc,) on the Dead are FAR more evident in their music than folk influences. They rocked as well as any live band I've ever seen. I'd suggest listening tp Bertha, for instance.

No virtuosity? I think at least Garcia, Lesh, Hart, and Hornsby when he played with them would qualify. If you think Garcia couldn't play a million miles a minute just like the shredders, check out tapes from '68-'69. One quick way to tel - bands that CAN'T play live, like, say, CCR, don't release hundreds of hours of live shows.

The excursions were far more influenced by jazz then bluegrass, and many jazz musicians (Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Brnaford Marsalis, Billy Cobham, Alphonso Johnson, etc,) loved them.

I have no interest in this debate. You have your opinion. Apparrently you also have your mind made up about the breakdown of MY opinion as well.

Thought I'd bump this in reference to the other CCR thread.

                        Yes,
It's very obvious that the Dead win best American rock band.
Anyone who disagrees will just make "fat hippy" jokes. And, as pointed out, CCR sucked live. Excellent catchy rock songs, no doubt, but you need to have it live in order to be the best. The Dead beat them songs-wise, anyway.

                        Expecting said jokes,

Yes they are one of the greatest american bands:

                            here's my other 10 suggestions:

                            1) Chuck Berry (ok he's not a band but he's the real king of rock)
                            2) The Velvet Underground
                            3) Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band
                            4) Mc5
                            5) Iggy Pop & The Stooges
                            6) Frank Zappa & The Mothers
                            7) The Ramones
                            8) Buddy Holly & The Crickets
                            9) Tom Petty and Heartbreakers
                            10) Pearl Jam

What the hell do you guys want that say they sucked live? very few sound as good live as they do out of a studio. CCR was probably the greatest "Garage band" that ever existed. I will also state that CCR was no different than any other band with the exception of a put together "super" band. Most bands have their weak players and those that stand out and make the band. This was more when a band was not made up of studio musicians but common guys who got together to play music. If you took Buddy Holly out of the crickets you did not have much. Same with John Fogarty. If a musician can go solo and still make it that shows who the real talent was in the group.
