I didn't follow an actual recipe, but my general approach is to dice: a couple big onions, 3 or 4 carrots, a potato or two, and some garlic. then get a big heavy pot good and hot and cook the onions in some olive oil till they start getting good and translucent and on their way to being cooked, then throw in the garlic and keep going for another couple minutes. add some salt and pepper; then the carrot and potato goes in, cook that for 5 minutes or so (you've been stirring and moving things around this whole time). then throw in a small pile (a couple tablespoons?) of good hot curry powder (you could make it up yourself if you have the spices and motivation). stir that around for a minute or two, then add chicken stock, some diced tomatoes, and a couple cups of lentils (I used red lentils last night). bring the whole mess up to a simmer and keep that going until the lentil/potatoes/carrots are all at the right level of doneness, and tasting for salt/pepper/other spices along the way. if you're feeling fancy you could run it through a blender at that point to puree it, but generally I'm too hungry for that. s'good with some herbed yogurt to cool off the spiciness a bit
