  • Picking up a girl for 1st date: what music do you have on in the car?

Silence in the car drives me absolutely INSANE (no pun intended). I have to have something going.

I usually go for chill but a bit upbeat...but nothing that will interrupt conversation.

Go-to choice is the Mark Farina Mushroom Jazz series.

    What say you?

I think jazz can come off as pretentious.

I actually like the chili peppers suggestion for some reason.

The radio does a pretty good job of saying "I'm not trying to impress you". Lowering their expectations is an important first step to any healthy relationship.

Chicks dig heavy distortion, feedback, and odd time signatures, so I always have Tool playing. One day that second date will be mine...oh yes.

Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz is closer to hip hop than jazz.

I'll play a mix CD of my own then ask her what station she likes.

That way she gets a glimpse of my taste and then gets control over the music. It helps ease things in.

                            "trout mask replica"

just to see how long it takes her to blurt out "what in god's name is this ****************?" if she says nothing, she obviously doesn't care and we have nothing in common. because that album is almost unlistenable.

Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, might be nice, but I usually play whatever the hell is on my MP3 player at the time.

If she doesn't like my music, that's a bad first sign. You shouldn't be so worried about trying to impress her as much as trying to find someone who likes the same stuff you do.

Unless you're just trying to get laid, then go with the Beach Boys.
                              ...That's what she said.
