  • How do you deal with people you don't want to talk to?

Do you ignore them or tell them to get lost? I'm talking about people who call you to hang out, not coworkers or people you see on a daily basis.

I usually make up excuses until they get the hint.

Sure, it's not the most honestly and forthcoming way to do it I admit, but it's what I do.

So, what are you doing Friday? Oh busy? How a bout Saturday? Hmm.... what about next Friday? How about next Saturday?

There is an episode of Seinfeld about this exact issue. I was inspired to make a list of excuses.

LOL... I remember that. He breaks up with the guy.

"I'm busy. Nope busy. Busy then too."

That's why I just stopped responding. What am I going to say... "it's not you, it's me.... I've changed"?

I'm usually pretty accommodating. If I'm busy, I'll say so. But if I've got some free time (this is pretty rare), I'll usually play along.

I don't have to worry about that. I'm the person people don't want to talk to.

Any tips? Am I off to a good start by not promptly replying to texts and never returning phone calls?

Hint for online instructors...play the example in it's entirety, THEN talk about it for 5 minutes.

I realize that comes easier to some more so than others.

I dunno... I don't work at it - it just comes naturally. I think being an engineer has something to do with it.

I ignore them. Recently I had a guy stop in my work last September who I had not seen since 1996. At that time I had known him since 1987 so more time had passed not seeing him since I knew him. He was always a hassle and a little too crazy for me. Basically a friend through a friend so when he popped into work out of the blue I didn't recognize him even but we exchanged phone numbers even though I had no desire to call him. i just thought it was the friendly thing to do.

he called a couple times between september and December and left a message but I just ignored it and didn't return the call. I felt like a dick at the time but I'm glad I didn't call back. Knock on wood with fingers crossed I think he got the message.

I just plan to ignore like bob said... haven't seen them in about a year and don't really care to. It's an old jamming buddy, who I guess has no one else to jam with. I don't really enjoy/have the time to hang out and I don't want to jam without any intention of doing anything with it. I remember one guy who I auditioned for and after 2-3 practices I told him I didn't want to do it. He sent me like 8 e-mails crying to me about it. I wish I could find the thread. Hopefully this guy has more pride than that.

BTW, I've got some diminished arrpeggios I am working on this week. I'll be posting them on here eventually because I have no idea what they are. I can tell it's in F# minor. Any tips for trying to break them down on my own? Print out the tab and write the notes above them?
