Flamenco guitar on ECM? What is this world coming to?

    http://player.ecmrecords.com/jose_lu...-solo_guitarra

Any good? What do our resident flamencologists think?

For a second there I thought this was a thread about flamenco guitar on EMG's. Disappointed

For a second there I thought this would be about the record mentioned in the OP. Disappointed

I haven't heard it, and I wish the website would offer sounds samples of something other than his Bach-inspired piece. The guy is obviously a good player though, judging from his playing on Amina Alaoui

Really nice sound he got with that guitar. It does not sound like pure flamenco?

You guys perfectly summarise my (minor) concerns. I like Flamenco music and I like ECM records... but I am not sure I like the idea of and ECM recording of Flamenco music.

It sounds like someone playing a non-flamenco piece on a flamenco guitar, with flamenco technique (minus the rasgeos). Probably because that's what it is.

The 1:30 samples on iTunes sound pretty good... the Bach-inspired piece seems to be atypical. The rest... I'm not sure it's Flamenco Puro (can a solo guitar album be?), but it's definitely more flamenco. There's even some singing (last track). I guess he would also be the singer?

                I'll probably buy it.

I'm listening to samples on Amazon, yeah it does sound good. He seems to favour the slower, more gentle side of flamenco. I like that guajira ("Piel Suave").

Great stuff. Would like to listen the whole album.

                      Listened to it.

                      Recommend it.
