  • Forum opinion needed: Sexist Scifi Book Covers

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21033708

Based on this article, I was wondering how much this issue has effected your opinion of science fiction novels.

Are portrayals of scantily clad females on book covers off-putting & confining, or does it inspire you to pick up the book and dream big, impossible dreams of saving the galaxy?

Objectifying women's bodies is what we do. The idea of a relationship with a real woman is terrifying to most men, as well it should be. Hence the high sales figures on hand lotion and Puffs facial tissue.

It's acceptable though because that is a picture of the heroine and she's a sex robot designed to please humans but she only gets activated after humans are extinct.

I rarely ever read sci-fi. I don't mean to avoid it, but it seems like only sci-fi fans are even aware that sci-fi really exists.

I think a lot of sci-fi fans have had to adjust their expectations.

I read a chunk of the classics. I've picked up a couple of John Varley novels in airport bookstores. I read comic books. What else is there?
