These are just straight up live recording of a few songs (we are up to about 3 hours of music so far).
The vibe is a melodic-free-less-is-more-dynamic-thing, with a WHOLE LOT of listening to each other. The drummer and bassist are solid as ****************, and myself and the vibes player try and create one sound together as in we will often play in each others space to strengthen the moment as well as distance ourselves to create a wider harmonic sound. We also try to develop "hand offs" from melody soloist to soloist, to melody. You can tell we are all listening to each other and are going for a "musical-soulmate" type sound.
The mix of music goes everywhere from Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, John Abercrombie, Chick Corea, Oregon/Towner, Allman Brothers, originals, standards, classic pop stuff, etc...
Regardless, other than the one page lead sheet, it's all improvisation...as a group though, not just as a soloist. We are just getting out to play live these days. We did a few private/corporate parties over the holidays and are gearing up for our first public appearances. We aren't in this one for the money (although, we'll probably still make more money our first time in at venues that Chicken Monkey has played multiple times, but that's a given) but instead are playing places that dig this music. With the background/experience depth of this group, where we play is nothing but our picking and choosing.
Anyways, enjoy one original and two pop tunes...
