I'm having a go at I Know a Little by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's got a few tricky bits in the intro but I think I can pull it off. If I manage it, it'll be the hardest thing I know, probably. I'm also on and off having a go at Hallelujah I Love Her So. I've also been drilling through some arps.

Is that a chord melody sort of thing?

I had to learn "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" by The Spinners.  I had to learn the keyboard/horn solo and play it on guitar for a gig at The Roxy tomorrow night.  I love playing this kind of stuff.  Takes me back.

3 of the original songs with the instrumental band I am playing with.  We demo'd some stuff to give us an idea of how the songs go and are now working on tightening them up.

Also learning some Grateful Dead stuff via way of Jazz is Dead.  I didn't really start listening to the Dead until the last few months, but they have some good songs.

Sort of started Eruption, but I haven't touched it since last week.  It's hard to get into the frame of mind for that when you are listening to mostly Dead and Gram Parsons stuff.  But, I'm sure I'll go through a phase sooner or later.

Flight of the Bumblebee on the tuba.

Blitzkrieg Bop on the glass armonica.

A mash-up of 4'11" and Stairway to Heaven on the Alpenhorn.

The good news is you don't ever have to go through that phase again.

I recently picked up a beginner Yamaha keyboard (PSR-e233) and have been working on some simple parts to introduce to the band:

      Don't Do Me Like That

      Superstition (horns)

      Keep on Smilin'

      Drift Away (strings)

I'm not a keyboard player, so it may be a while before I'm ready to take these out of the woodshed.

Also been trying to introduce some slide guitar (something I've never been very good at).  Currently working on:

      Monday Morning

      Oh Atlanta

Good luck with I Know a Little.  Once you get it moving properly, it is a fun as hell song to play.  Getting the notes right is the easy part, making it swing - that is the real trick.

Thanks! It might be my fsavourite Skynyrd song.

Mostly jazz standards & American Songbook selections.  It's slow & steady - trying to really learn them rather than playing through a few times and moving on.  I want to have some recall ability down the line.

I am starting to write & produce some EDM originals & remixes though so that's taking me in a different direction.  That's really slow going but I still have a decent learning curve with the software and all the collateral stuff that's out there.

That's a freaky combo ... if that's your old avatar we should get together IRL.

Among many ongoing "learning" projects, right now I am starting the focus on Footloose The Musical. In March I'm playing it at a high school (of all places) for 11 days over two weeks. I'm not sure yet which call dates are rehearsals and which are performances. I'd assume the last 3-4 dates are the performance but like I said...I'm not sure. Serious chunk of pay though since it's for a high school in a pretty wealthy area...**************** they are buying a top notch band for their kids to perform Footloose with!!! And 11 days...they ain't cheap that's for sure!

Hint for online instructors...play the example in it's entirety, THEN talk about it for 5 minutes.

The only good liberal is a...well, we're still trying to figure out the answer to that one.

If you need help, let me know. I've learned that solo many times for students.

Thanks! I'll plough on as I am at the moment and see how it goes. I imagine I'll be at it a month at least.
