  • More brain pain with Wes Montgomery

    Days of Wine and Roses

There is already a Lesson Loft thread about this song:

    http://www.harmonycentral.com/t5/The-Lesson-Loft/Days-of-Wine-and-Roses-Harmony-questions/td-p/16466324

This blog seems interesting although I haven't tried playing the transcription:

    http://somuchsound.blogspot.com/2011/03/wes-montgomery-days-of-wine-and-roses.html

It's a jazz transcription at Ultimate-Guitar, so take it with a grain (or several) of salt:

I usueally find these Lick By Neck videos to be helpful:

    and of course, Wes himself:

As I'm sure you've all suspected, Jammity is a lying liar, I do NOT hate Wes Montgomery. In fact, I adore his music.

On the other hand, Lenny Breau played this particular tune better.

I have The Wes Montgomery Guitar Folio by Steve Khan, which has the chord melody statement and solo to that exact song version written out in standard notation, no tab.

It's pretty interesting and informative to read along while it is playing.

Yeah, Steve Khan is pretty good. I used his transcription of Dolphin Dance when I was learning that.  Sadly, the transcription of Days Of Wine And Roses is not available on his web site. Still, good background material:
