  • The Accidental Racist...

so this is apparenlty the hottest current music related story in the news.  Anybody feel strongly about this one way or the other?  To me it just seems mostly like a really, bad song that had good intentions...http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/09/opinion/granderson-brad-paisley/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

Yeah.  Really ham-handed songwriting, and I'm not sure Paisley knows quite what he's trying to say here.

Yeah. Terrible song. Paisley's not real strong in the lyrics department (didn't he have a song about crabs or lice?)...

It means, "Just because I'm wearing a confederate flag shirt, it doesn't mean I hate you, ni$$er."

You can always tell when it's a slow news week.

Anything that promotes the discussion on race in this country is a good thing.

I don't find it offensive, it's just comically clumsy. Brad Paisley writes some great tunes. This is not one of them.

Brad Paisley is a modern day guitar hero and has shared the stage with the legendary John Mayer.  I don't see anything wrong with Dr. Suess being his primary influence when writing songs!  It's not like he is Ronnie James Dio or anything.

My skin is different from yours, you see,

        My hair and features, too,

        But underneath this rebel flag,

        I identify with you

That is nice, my cracker friend,

        I feel much the same,

Not to say I wouldn't like,

To beat you at your game

We need to try to understand,

        That our differences are few,

So forgive me for this racial slur,

        This equality's kind of new

The N word doesn't hurt me none,

But sticks and stones, they might,

I think that we'd see eye to eye,

        If my skin were white...
