      Does he smell of Mayonnaise?

      • Life on Mars was ****************ing brilliant. Miles better than any American thing I've seen and certainly better than the American version. Having said that, I really enjoyed "Supernatural"..I think the Americans do that sort of thing very well indeed.."Buffy" being another example. The supposedely creepy/scary UK drama "Bedlam" with Will Young was awful. We got through 20 minutes.

I loved Buffy, and my wife and daughter love Supernatural. Was Bedlam that programme with Philip Glennister? What I saw of it was crap.

The American show I really enjoy at the moment is The Mentalist.

I liked Supernatural then it did that thing where they run out of individual weekly stories and have a longer story arc and recurring demons and stuff. It was the same with The X Files. It started going downhill with all that alien abduction rubbish.

Yeah, The X Files turned to complete **************** when they started going with huge multi-season arcs and all the alien abduction stuff. You'd watch an episode and be left scratching your head thinking 'what the **************** was that all about?'. Nothing ever seemed to happen, nothing was resolved, it was really unsatisfactory television. You never watched an episode and came away thinking 'that was a really brilliant episode, I thoroughly enjoyed that'. If someone asked you at work "what was The X Files about last night?" you couldn't have told them.

              • The X-Files was brilliant if you watched it every week. That may not be for you. If you're not prepared to make a commitment to TV as an art form, stick to shallow and episodic cardigan telly

                    • Talking about the X-Files, I've been enjoying Californication recently. David Duchovny certainly surprised me with that change of role

                        • I like the 10 o'clock news on the BBC. There's usually a decent cast and plots are established and resolved with remarkable speed...

I guarantee you that if you ask people 'what was your favourite ever episode of The X Files?' (or even 'what was the most memorable episode?') 99% of people would name an episode from the early seasons when the stories were wrapped up inside two episodes, tops. Those early episodes burned through more good, exciting, creative ideas in a single episode than the later seasons had in a whole season.

I like my shows to be like whiskey, you like them to have the ideas and excitement well diluted and spread out over a whole season. It's Bushmills vs. 2% ABV Tescos own brand lager.

Don't like it. They keep re-hashing old plotlines. I've seen the Afghanistan one several times.

I never get any 'real'*mail at work. However I do receive a ton of adverts and broschures and so on which is a pain in the arse. It does make me feel important though.
