  • Finally got around to fixing my 2nd VFX!

    Oh Yes!!

I bought this one for $35, pretty beat-up, but it worked.

The outputs were very crackly & stuff; I assumed the jacks needed to be reflowed. I took the synth completely apart, and found that the traces on the PWB from the output jacks to ground were fried (former owner must have plugged into something wrongly).

I soldered in 2 jumpers to replace the damaged traces (after verifying that nothing was shorted), and lo and behold it worked!! Cleaned it up quite a bit while it was apart; it had all kinds of nasty crud inside of it, including 3 different kinds of insects.

I have another Ensoniq VFX, in pefect condition, which I paid $200 for with a nice hard case & a bunch of cartridges; they are pretty interesting synths to program, with a unique voice architexture, IMO. They also have polyphonic aftertouch, which is not common in synths, with a Fatar action.

I'm going to use this older one for our Tuesday sectional rehearsals & bring back the EMU synth I'm using for that presently.

Ensoniq stuff was the bomb at one time

I have an older Alesis Q6

I'm not much of a piano player, but it makes some cool sounds.

I used to have a Ensoniq PC Sound Card. It had great MIDI sounds and a really good soundcard also. Both Ensoniq and Windows quit supporting it as far as drivers.

I did not. There was one roly-poly (sowbug), and parts of several spiders, plus a few unidentifiable parts. This synth has been around the world; I bought it from a guy that has a solo act, comedy & music; he goes by "Bat". I bought one of his CD's too; there was some pretty funny stuff on it.

I have several Ensoniq synths: An ESQ1, an EPS sampler, 2 VFX's, and an MR-76. I want to use the sampler to record my turtles hissing, then play it back slowly, in the hopes that it sounds like a gigantic dinosaur.

I might have asked them, but they were unresponsive.
