  • Anybody have stainless steel appliances and not like them?

I need new appliances (fridge/freezer, oven, microwave range, dishwasher) sometime in the near future. It seems like stainless steel is the go-to color these days. I figure it is a semi-major purchase that will last a decade or more so the entire "buy once, cry once" theory sort of applies. Of course, it doesn't really matter to me... my current appliances are white.... and don't work.

They sure look nice in the store.

I don't know if your old enough to remember the Harvest Gold and Avocado 70's phase.

I have white and it's fine for the ghetto.

        I wasn't around then.

I'm researching and I think the consensus is they don't add any value to your home. I'm not looking to sell anytime soon, but to me it doesn't make much sense in spending the extra money on something like that if you won't get it back. Plus, if there ever is a misses chances are she will hate what is in there and want to replace it anyways.... so why spend the money now?

I'd probably just leave it, but I am getting sick of hearing "your oven/microwave/dishwasher doesn't work??" I try to show them this really cool PRS, but they seem fixated on the appliances.

I have heard that they are fingerprint collectors. Not sure if this is the case as my appliances are black, white and brown. My decor/appliances is/are dictated by my budget mostly.

It's not dictated as much by budget as it is by me being cheap... but hey that's part of the reason I don't have to budget.

I have them -- frig, oven, microwave and dishwasher -- haven't really noticed any more fingerprints compared with the black appliances that I have had in the past. Have had them for almost 2 years now, and don't have any complaints (( didn't really pick them out, where already in the new place - the builder had picked them )).

Yeah I got stainless steel kitchen stuff about a two years ago. Works fine, looks great. No problem.
