  • That's really bizarre to us nowadays I guess that Kings were once considered representatives of God on Earth, Isn't it?

But it does have a continuing correlation with our lives today, but WHY did people accept that for so long?

My guess is they were just really stupid and wanted someone to tell them what to think...

which has a continuing correlation with our lives today.

    ya think? or not?

Well, the christians still want to tell us what to think and how to act so I suppose it does have some correlation with today..

But hasn't the President of The U.S. in many ways been substituted for a King.

Yet he doesn't have the power of a King.

        Does he?

No he doesn't. He has the power allowed him by the U.S. Congress which is questionable. Hmmmm maybe they don't have very much "power" either.

Pharaohs were considered to be gods. My guess is it was a convenient explanation to the peasants as to why the Pharaoh could do whatever he wanted.

The Pope is supposed to be God's representative but King Henry decided that he didn't have to take orders from the Pope. I don't think King Henry regarded himself as a god but he had no problem jumping the line in front of the Pope.

Whether they consider themselves gods or not is less important that some guy comes along who is ok with calling himself the supreme boss. This is now playing out in the good old USA.

In the UK and other monarchies, the monarchies have gradually given way to some parliamentary form of government. The UK has a Queen but the Queen is no longer the last word.

By Trump saying he can pardon himself, he is assuming the mantle of all-powerful. Considering the US was founded on the opposite of monarchal rule, this a pretty ballsy move.

Does the US want a King? Will we fight another civil war over this question or will this would-be king be run out on a rail?

Current global warming temperature trend: 0.05ºC per decade, plus or minus 0.1ºC (source: UN IPCC AR5) ...Yes, the error rate is higher than the estimated rate of change.

"Anthropogenic global warming is a proposed theory whose basic mechanism is well understood, but whose magnitude is highly uncertain. The growing evidence that climate models are too sensitive to CO2 has implications for the attribution of late-20th-century warming and projections of 21st-century climate. If the recent warming hiatus is caused by natural variability, then this raises the question as to what extent the warming between 1975 and 2000 can also be explained by natural climate variability." --Dr. Judith Curry, chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology

People accepted the idea that kings were God's Representatives on Earth because:
                  1. People in the Middle Ages were profoundly ignorant.
                    .
                  2. The Church was in cahoots with the nobility, each one supporting the other,
to the mutual determent of the common folks, whom they both fleeced.
                    .
                  3. Having no other frame of reference, the common folks took The Church and
the nobility at their word. That, and speaking out against either was likely to
cost you your head, in the most physical manner. Hang around for a bit and
                    axe me for detailz.
Today, Trump supporters believe he is God's Gift to America for basically the same
reasons: His followers are unimaginative, unquestioning nitwits who believe everythign
they're told, without wondering if maybe he's not quite on the up-and-up with them.
Their religious leaders (the present day version of The Church) and the extremely rich
(today's financial nobility) have a mutual support network with the Republicans, and
Trump in particular which makes the dunderheads accept what they say. There may
no longer be public hangings or beheadings, but the threat of job loss and "liburulz"
sounds just as bad. No one dares cross them.

There are millions of people in this country who believe Trump was sent here from God.

                    Does that count?
