  • Judge Wood to Avenatti: Either drop the TV tour, or drop the case.

According to Courthouse News, Judge Wood said to Avenatti today, “I either want you to participate, or not be in the matter at all. I don’t want you to have some existence in a limbo where you’re free to denigrate Mr. Cohen, and I believe potentially deprive him of a fair trial by tainting a jury pool.” And I totally agree with her.

I had said here before that I didn’t like him on tv so much, especially if he reveals any info the NY district or Mueller are trying to hold tight.

Also, though I wasn’t in on Emerson’s thread (sorry EB), I too feel like Avenatti comes across as a somewhat dishonest opportunist. I mean, I could be totally wrong, but I sense bluster and hubris rather than complete sincerity and devotion to honesty. He comes across like a Clinton or Trump, whereas Obama and GWB (despite his naïveté and evil VP) don’t come across as dishonest TO ME. This means nothing regarding the truth, as our senses of honesty are quite subjective. Nevertheless, I just want to say Avenatti seems more interested in opportunities for himself than humbly doing his job—which seems to be Mueller’s MO.

But I’m confused though about this article. It says Avenatti immediately got on tv, chose to drop the case, but then later says he “will still represent Daniels.”

I’m about to enter choir rehearsal, but if anyone else understands, please explicate.

First I have to look up explicate.
George Washington was the man who never told a lie. Richard Nixon was the man who never told the truth. Donald Trump is the man who doesn't know the difference.
Venezuela is what happens when you have Trump without the Madison.

I don't know of him other than recent topical stuffs such as this post, but I will say that when searching the Googlerator on that name it put up a picture. That picture is worth a thousand words but I wont use that many.

The picture is of a guy putting on his 'hard' face, as if he wants everyone to know 'he really means business!' It reminds me of a local ambulance chaser, 'Kevin Kurgis, Attorney at Law' who went as far as to have his imprint put on an airbag for one of his commercials.

His involvement in the case against Cohen has always been somewhat tangential. When first admonished he said he was going to drop his involvement in the case, then later changed his mind.

It also appears he later changed his mind about doing what the judge said about not being on TV so much as is going to continue to do so.

My guess is he figures his involvement won't really be the factor in whether Cohen is found guilty or not and as long as he can be involved AND stay on TV to make things difficult for Cohen he will. If he gets booted off at some point by the judge, then it won't matter than much anyway.

Just my guess on that last part though.

In reality I think Avenatti is much more interested in being on TV than the case for his client. Just sayin....

Yes! And I watch liberal news. He’s on many times a week with that face. It just seems insincere. We know he has gotten big, good rulings in CA (on matters more serious than defamation following sex coverup), but he still seems skeezy. What the judge said about affecting the jury pool is particularly apt.

Ah, thank you for that explication. I guess the case could probably proceed the same without him. But still, he SEEMS a bit self-obsessed TO ME, and I don’t much care for having Trump types on my side.

There's no doubt he is Trumpian type sleezebag. But that's what I like about him. I think we need at least ONE of them on our side.

Think of the election. No one could take him down because no one could get down in the mud with him and take him on at his level. It may very well be that the only people who CAN take Trump down will be the Porn Star and her ambulance chasing attorney.

                So...

Reprehensible creeps are OK as long as they are on 'your side'?

Is this not the sort of question others might be asked had they made a similar remark?

Did you just out-yourself as a partisan?

He's not running for office. He's just a lawyer. I expect them all to be pretty sleezy.

So no. I don't really care much that the LAWYERS are reprehensible creeps. I don't care that Avenatti is anymore than I care that Cohen is.

It might appear that way, but i believe it’s his way of keeping the pressure on his adversaries in order to force them into making a mistake he can exploite. It’s already happened so it’s working pretty good for him, and his client. Their story remains consistent while the trump camp continues to modify their story to try to get him off their back. They end up looking like fools in the media. Pretty sad when the porn star has more credibility than the president. Every time Avenatti gets out there it forces Rudy to say something stupid. He is playing them like a Stradivarius

I 'liked' the OP, not only for content, but also because this is the first known instance in which anyone actually put finger to keyboard and typed out the phrase 'Sorry EB'.

It made me tear up a bit.

I guess so. I found myself bizarrely chanting "go Marco" in the one debate when Rubio started calling him a liar to his face.
