Trump could wonder if he did the wrong thing but keep on doing it because he'd look weak if he turned back now. That's the part that worries me. He'd drive us off a cliff and then blame it on someone else.
George Washington was the man who never told a lie. Richard Nixon was the man who never told the truth. Donald Trump is the man who doesn't know the difference.
Venezuela is what happens when you have Trump without the Madison.

Trump would never admit to doing anything wrong. He's got that papal-infallibility/God complex going.

There are two things wrong with Trump's punitive tariffs on steel and aluminium:

First, the price hikes would make everything cost more. That would cause some people -- and government agencies -- to cancel projects because they can no longer afford them. Result, job losses.

Second, Trump claims he is ''helping American companies,'' but the American companies still producing those metals may not have the capacity to pick up the slack from the loss of imported metals. They won't be able to meet demand. Further, it will take years and still more price increases to make it profitable to start steel and aluminium plants from scratch.

As so often happens, Trump got an idea, got it wrong, and didn't think it through. I'm sure other, more learned folks than I can think of still more reasons why the metals tariffs are a bad idea.

So he's risking 146,000 jobs to protect an industry that only employs 152,000 workers?
        ----------------
In fact, there appear to be some 130,000 to 153,000 jobs in total in that entire US steel industry.

Based on 2013 data, the U.S. steel industry operates over 100 facilities employing 152,900 people and producing steel shipments valued at 75 billion dollars.

        --------------
I'm surprised that so many people don't realize how truly and deeply disgusting most Trump supporters are. Do you think they aren't completely serious? No...they're for real, and you would be wise to remember that.

the steel mills that still exist here in the former rust belt belong to japan and Germany. Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, now called Wheeling Nissan, is owned by the japanese and weirton steel, own by a german company is moth balled and is being used to as lay down space for the shale gas industry. they couldn't make a roll of steel if the world depended on it. so how can he bring american steel back if american's don't own the steel plants.

when we went to pittsburgh as a kid there was nothing but steel mills on both sides of all 3 rivers. now there isn't 1 working steel plant in the steel city. sad.

Without mills...those jobs will be a long time coming. You just can't put up a steel mill overnight.

Gary, Indiana? Trump is Harold Hill promising to bring order back to town with band instruments instead of pool.
