  • Trump says he dropped Manafort from campaign due to 'potential conflicts' with 'certain nations'

"Well, it was a friend of mine who was a businessman -- a very successful businessman and a good person, and you know, Paul was not there very long," Trump said on Sharyl Attkisson's syndicated show "Full Measure," which will air in full on Sunday.

He continued: "Well, I think we found out something about he may be involved with all -- with certain nations, and I don't even know exactly what it was in particular. But there was a point at which we just felt Paul would be better off -- because we don't want to have many potential conflicts."

He just admitted that he knew about his campaigns contacts with the Russians, making everything he has said about the subject so far - a lie.

I don't think he understands the difference between truth and lies. It's just whatever shiny object has attracted his attention at the time.

I think you just laid out his lawyer’s entire defense strategy right there.

Very true. It’s instinct for him to say whatever he thinks he needs to say at the time. Truth or lie makes no difference. Only thing that matters is if it works to close the deal.

I think he just tightened the noose around his neck with this.

So much for the "witch hunt."

It's now become "fish in a barrel."

Rough translation: Manafort did what Trump wished he could get away with, until Manafort got caught. Now, Trump is trying to distance himself from the very sort of ''corrupt /swamp creatures'' that he -- Trump -- said he was going to purge from the Washington establishment.

Now that Manafort is headed to court, Trump claims he never knew him, or at least that he no longer wants to be seen with him. I'm not sure which ''potential conflicts'' with ''certain nations'' Trump is speaking about; that could be everything from laundering money for the Russians to infuriating former or soon-to-be-former friends and allies of the Untied Skates. Stay tuned, you're going to see a lot more of this kind of ''never knew him'' treatment of ''former friends.'' Until the day Trump, himself, is caught and hauled into court.

If anything can possibly restore my faith in the Untied Skates, it will be the use of the legal system to bring this whole smelly business out into the open, establish facts and send the perpetrators to whatever fate the law decrees. If the Trump Troupe -- and the man himself -- get off scot free, I shall be most disappointed.

I believe that Robert Mueller and his team will build a most damning case of obstruction, collusion, and other crimes and misdemeanors against PresTwit and his confederates. It's the "fate" part that gets a bit tricky.

PresTwit has been a Faustian bargain for the GOP since Day One...a fact so obvious that even they realize it. The question is, and always has been, how can (and what will) they get out of it? So far, Putin's Puppet has done squat for Republican legislators...even less, when you consider how many times he's shived them in the back when they were down. Now, they're placing all their chips on tax reform. If that fails (and there's a pretty good chance it will), I think there's a strong possibility that they'll go for broke and put his sorry a$$ on trial. If tax reform passes, they may decide to take another spin at the wheel and give the devil his due a bit longer.

But, in fact, nothing is really guaranteed. Regardless of whether they can get any legislation passed or not, the GOP still has a knife at its throat held by Trump's base...that 30 percent demographic of morons, racists and other very fine people, which the party is counting on in 2018 (and beyond)...but which, in the guise of Steve Bannon, is even now threatening the establishment wing of the party.

Talk about not being able to make this sh*t up!

The Faustian bargain was forced onto the saner members of the legislative Republican caucus by the right wing lunatics, the rich, the religious fundamentalists and the hordes of low-IQ rednecks who believe them. The proposed budget and "tax reforms" are the same gifts to the rich that the Republicans have been offering for decades. If it passes, it won't prove the Republicans have "won" anything, though it will probably make Trump and their corporate owners happy. Sooner or later, the American people are going to get fed-up with all the greed and corruption, and the tax reform that will rob most of them, combined with the proposed budget that will take away the benefits many Americans depend upon may be the last straw. If you want to rile an American, steal his money, and those bills would do it.
