    Underrated?

The man is a legend - especially among slide players.

Quite possibly MY favorite slide player - certainly my favorite lap steel player.

The guy is a crazed musical genius IMHO.

I gave Hoddy's OP a like because he named a great slide player... not because of the under-rated comment, which I really don't agree with. Sonny Landreth is obviously very highly rated - especially by other slide players, as onelife, fretmess and moogerfooger rightfully noted.

Me too. Mr. Dave has always been one of my favorite musicians.
I really miss El Rayo-X though. That band cooked.

I think the succes of "Running on Empty" was do, in a large part, to that crazed musical genius.

I had a small band in the '80s (clean strat, SVT bass, slick drummer and a frontman) we used to cover a lot of David Lindley's arrangements of well known tunes. Twist and Shout, Papa Was a Rolling Stone, Wearwolves of London etc and the audiences really enjoyed them.

This is possibly my favorite Of his songs...

Running on Empty was The Encore at a high school reunion gig I played last Saturday. Other slide Tunes I got to play that night included While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Stuck In The Middle With You and Rocky Mountain Way.

Duane Allman was probably the biggest slide influence for me. Along with George Harrison Bonnie Raitt and Johnny Winter.

I'm in agreement with everyone you mentioned Tom. All of them were big slide influences for me too.

Thank you sir - I've got to do some computer stuff (transferring everything over - hardware and software - to a new Macbook Pro) but I'll definitely give those a listen to once I'm done.
