  • Truck attack, let's keep a cool head!

Now I know it is easy for some on this board to blame the truck for this tragedy, but your anger would be misdirected. Yes, I know in the immediate area of New York city there are at minimum 148 truck rental agencies. This is not counting I don't know how many truck dealerships where a person can just go in and buy a truck, no license required. You can buy two door and four door trucks as well as trucks with high capacity beds, a Nissan or a Peterbilt. You got the money, they have any truck you want for whatever purpose you have in mind. With the truck rental businesses you can just walk in and drive out in a truck within an hour. Sounds incredible but it's true and you know it.

Now some would say that the easy availability of these trucks in whatever configuration is what encourages people with ill intent to easily aquire one. Very easy to make this leap. Many on the other side of the issue say that trucks have a purpose in our society like taking your dog for a ride, hauling trash or helping a buddy to move out of their parents house and having a truck readily availability for these instances is why easy access to trucks is necessary.

The thing is that we have trucks in this country, millions of them. It is a protected right to keep and bare trucks.
I own a truck and have owned a few in years past and never had a problem with owning a truck. Same with my friends.

I will let the authorities sort this out and complete their investigation. Their are many law abiding truck owners and we should respect this right without looking, with a jaundiced eye, to legal law abiding truck owners everywhere whenever they drive by. I for one will not tolerate it!

Sounds like this incident fits with the tendency of terrorists to use trucks and nut-jobs to use guns.

Are you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Jesus Saves..

I just bought a car today.

They made a copy of my license, confirmed that I was properly insured, and registered the vehicle with the appropriate agency.

If your point is that we should regulate guns similarly to the way we regulate the operation of motor vehicles, I couldn’t agree more.

If trucks are just as dangerous and deadly as guns, why can’t people simply use trucks for self defense?

Conceal-carry could be an issue. Especially in a crowded store.

With all due respect, perhaps you should try using a dictionary. You obviously don’t know the definition of the word “link.” Very, very sad indeed.

And just so we’re absolutely clear on this, here’s the link to my thread; the OP is the first post, just in case you’re still confused. Now, try real hard to post something that’s not disingenuous. TIA.

So, can we assume that you thought telecruiser's post to be entirely appropriate, given that people died and their families are grieving?

Usually telecruiser's posts (with which I rarely agree) have a certain air of class and dignity. Not so much this time, IMO

They are more dangerous - trucks kill a LOT more people every year than rifles with scary-looking black plastic stocks.

If you want a serious discussion, use reply. Comment is worthless for actual debate. I won't respond again to a comment, and since I tend to edit my posts by deleting and re-posting, you may find that comments disappear at random.
