Add this to Donald Trump's list of hypocrisies: In announcing his program to "End Opioid Addiction," he said, "I learned because of Fred." This was a reference to his brother, Frederick Trump, Jr. who died at age 43 of the effects of long-term alcoholism.
The president praised Fred as "...A great guy, great personality, better than mine..." As my dad would say, "Thanks for them kind words." But it bears no relation to how Trump treated his own brother while he was alive.
Fred lacked the callous, cruel, killer instinct for business of his siblings. In college, he enjoyed partying, and later, his career as an airline pilot. Donald did not approve. Here's a partial list of what he did to his own brother:
- Before their father, Fred, Sr. died, Donald and his other siblings persuaded him to write Fred Jr. out of his will almost entirely, leaving them with all the money while Fred Jr. got nothing.
- Fred Jr. thought this was the case, so he challenged the will in court. That got Donald angry because, "Fred sued MY FATHER!"
- Fred Jr. had a son named William. William had a seizure disorder that cost upwards of $30,000 a year for treatment; an emotional and financial burden Fred Jr. could not afford. That, alone, may have aggravated his drinking problem.
- In revenge for Fred "suing MY FATHER," Donald cut off all health insurance to Fred's family, including and especially his disabled son. Why? Sheer spite, nothing else.
So when Donald Trump says he "learned because of Fred," don't believe the crocodile tears. He's lying about this as he's lied about so many other things.
