RIP Antoine, thanks for the music.

CNN) Antoine "Fats" Domino, a titan of early rock 'n' roll whose piano-based hits -- such as "Ain't That a Shame," "Blueberry Hill" and "Blue Monday" -- influenced artists including Paul McCartney and Randy Newman, died Tuesday, an official said.

I will give props to Fats for staying in his 9th ward home during the flooding resulting from Katrina, to be with his ailing wife. Rumors of his death at that time were greatly exaggerated.

Yes, sorry, he effectively trolled me. Fats Domino was most popular when my sisters were teenagers and I was a decade younger. Our house had lots of that era's music playing on their little portable record player. Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Fats Domino, Harry Belafonte, Ricky Nelson. Almost everything Fats did was upbeat without being sugary. When I was a kid, we would occasionally travel to Kansas City, where there is an ethnic neighborhood called Strawberry Hill. Motoring by, we'd break out in song, with Strawberry instead of Blueberry. I imagined Fats Domino as a big imposing figure, not a 5'6" heavyweight. He must have endured some kind of misery from time to time, being black, fat and short.

Maybe he forgot to tell you that leaving the thread at that point would help prevent further embarrassment from your little troll post.

First of all, the guy just died, so please don't come into a RIP thread and start throwing shade.

Whether there are lots of other Fats Domino threads or not, that doesn't mean that there aren't some people here who grew up with his music and who lament his passing.

Fats was one of the foundations of the first era of Rock, and he's had a huge and lasting influence. I've never known a time when his music wasn't around, and now he's gone too... another legend passes into history.

RIP Fats, and thanks for the music.

This too shall pass and you will get more attention, well deserved attention, in the near future.
