  • "Ignorant as a Child"

I don't believe I can remember ever when a foreign country discussed an American elected soon-to-be official in this way: "“In the field of diplomacy,” the Global Times wrote, “he is as ignorant as a child.”

    https://news.vice.com/story/the-many...d-donald-trump

Maybe he should reconsider and start getting his daily briefings?

Just a thought. Political cartoonery is a tradition which goes back at least 150 years. When it's good, it's very good indeed. What Ed posted wasn't just another moronic meme IMO. Is there not some 'wiggle room' within the rules for intelligent cartoons?

      If not, OK.

I see what you're saying, Gromit, but I think allowing wiggle room puts the mods in the position of having to judge which are moronic memes and which are intelligent cartoons.

And there are people who would attempt to argue that a drawing of Michelle Obama's face on a monkey holding a bucket of chicken in one hand and a slice of watermelon in the other constitutes an 'intelligent cartoon.'

Less hassle to require a comment, even if it's "here's a cartoon!"

Maybe you should have infirmed us in the OP which foreign country said that so we'd know not to click on your link.

Not sure what browser you're using but in Firefox I can hover my cursor over the link and see the whole thing. Not the content but the whole link, especially the part about China responding to Trump. Given what he's said about China, is it surprising they'd have a negative opinion?

Don't cast asparagus on my aspersions! hehe, but yeah, given the age of cell phones, I don't think we should form any opinions of each other based on typos. Every time I try to type 'didn't' on my cell phone, it comes out as 'did t'

It's not like Obama was regularly attending his intelligence briefings. Instead he opted for the paper version. I'm sure he savored every word, as demonstrated by the remarkable success we're currently enjoying on virtually every foreign and domestic front.

Sorry if his POV offends you, but no one promised that freedom of speech wouldn't be offensive occasionally - Phil O'Keefe

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Then they came for me—but fortunately they lost the election and their time was up!

The world is a mess. I don't know that a President Romney would have been any better, especially considering that by the third debate he professed that he shared nearly all of Obama's policies.

Exactly. The world is a mess. Dealing with it on more than a superficial level requires information, like the kind you get from intelligence briefings. Not saying Trump is stupid but avoiding information that will help you do your job seems kinda dumb.

The thing is: Trump might THINK he's hearing the same thing every time, but it might that he isn't sharp enough to pick up on subtle changes from day to day--unless there's a dollar sign attached to them.

Well, China obviously has its motives, so this isn't groundbreaking like as if French leaders talked about Trump like this.

Nevertheless! hehehe... Seeing as how Trump did not know what 'First Strike' was during a debate, I'm prone to think that Trump only just first heard the phrase 'One China' after his chat with Taiwan.

And seeing as that in Trump bios from the past, he was described as 'appearing to have no business or economics training whatsovever' following a meeting with 40 bankers over the Taj Mahal fiasco, maybe China's not too far off. He certainly speaks with the diction and precision of a four-year-old.

China is a nation of imbeciles with hardly a stalwart of intellect steering that sea of clueless souls. They also said that of Gorbachev. It's easy to stand in high places and throw stones downhill. China is still butt-hurt over Truman's abandoning them after WWII. Truman, a redneck extraordinaire, wanted to cut all relations with China despite the blood they spilled to assist us during that war. If not for them, General Jimmy Doolittle's Tokyo Raiders would not have found safe harbor. If not for them much of the fight against Japan would have been prolonged. But, Truman scorned them and China, truly wanting to ally itself with our western culture during and at war's end, instead found an ally in Russia which wrote its history thereafter. To this day they carry the wounds of Truman's snub as he helped rebuild Japan, his enemy in war, instead of China, his ally. They deserved better. They invested heavily in America to gain a foothold in an economic war against the world's mightiest nation but, in true Chinese form, forged ahead in that effort without an inkling of the trap it set for itself. I feel for them on the one hand but, damn, they're witless.

Trump was pitching a fit that Obama missed a few briefings. He's a hypocrite.

Having been in graduate school with several Chinese students, I can honestly say that this is as far removed from the truth as one can imagine. Their math and science education is an order of magnitude better than ours, and has been for decades.

I actually listened to what trump said about this. He said he wanted to hear only new information, as opposed to repeating the unchanged info. i.e. he only wanted the delta.
