      Is that hollywoods new talking point ,,,,, The dems are still the party of slavery,, only difference is that the slaves dont go to the fields,, they only go out to vote every two years.    They are still owned by the democrats

    Liberals don't know anything about todays Republicans except that they should hate them. Republicans are more protective of constitutional rights than the Democrats - obviously, considering the 2nd amendment infringement, healthcare laws, etc..., and laws that infringe on the independence of the states.

      Which sounds pretty much like the southern Democrats of Lincoln's time.

      As a Republican in 1860, Lincoln was unanimously reviled by southern whites who championed "states rights" to the point of seccesion.    Which party do those same people align themselves with today?

    There was a time in Lincoln's career when they probably would have.

    After he was elected President though, he became much like many of the other enemies of the Constitution the nation has seen over the years.

      Today's Republican party is heavily dominated by southern whites.  Not likely they'd have even been Republicans in 1860 let alone vote for Lincoln.
