Right off the bat the author shows his head to be up his **bleep**:

Life Is a Gift from God

We hold from God the gift which includes all others. This gift is life

"Let us not ignore the truth among ourselves, that we are the aggressors and they defend themselves. The country is theirs, because they inhabit it, whereas we want to come here and settle down."David Ben-Gurion (the father of Israel) http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.p...xt=va&aid=4715

    I like this part:

Mr. de Montalembert has been accused of desiring to fight socialism by the use of brute force. He ought to be exonerated from this accusation, for he has plainly said: "The war that we must fight against socialism must be in harmony with law, honor, and justice."

But why does not Mr. de Montalembert see that he has placed himself in a vicious circle? You would use the law to oppose socialism? But it is upon the law that socialism itself relies.

Still don't see anything in there about what kind of guns you can own though. And it seems to me that there is a lot of assumptive bull in that ... piece.

A long winded essay which recites the same tired propaganda about how liberals and commies are evil. Mostly mierda del toro, but well written at least.

When you get right down to it, the only possible reason to object to Bastiat's book is if you believe laws should be used for more than protecting people's liberties.

There are plenty of those sorts around. People believe its ok to use laws for any manner of reasons, but it's important to keep on mind that laws are never liberty neutral.. They either protect liberties, or they take them away, and I believe the time is approaching when we'll all have to decide which we believe is right.

if the law was used to fight socialism, what would happen to charities, most of which are set up so its assets are owned indivisibly, which is common ownership, an important part of socialism

would they be forced to sell their assets to individuals?

Who have I misunderstood? I seriously doubt many Republicans "reminding" me that we are a republic are doing so because they so much favor our elected-representative form of government over a direct referendum

Re: Markoh. My point is that it's incorrect to say the founders opposed the educated and the elite. They WERE the elite. Many wanted a king. Look up the biographies of these guys and try again to tell me they opposed elitism.
