  • Is every Republican in Arizona fucking nuts or what?

    http://legiscan.com/AZ/text/HB2467

In order to graduate high school, Republicans in Arizona want it to be the law that students recite this oath:

"I, _________, DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR THAT I WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC, THAT I WILL BEAR TRUE FAITH AND ALLEGIANCE TO THE SAME; THAT I TAKE THIS OBLIGATION FREELY, WITHOUT ANY MENTAL RESERVATION OR PURPOSE OF EVASION; AND THAT I WILL WELL AND FAITHFULLY DISCHARGE THESE DUTIES; SO HELP ME GOD."

What the ****************? And liberals are the one's trying to brainwash kids.

It is interesting how inconsistent "conservative" views are. This state coercion is fine I guess......They went along with The "Patriot" Act without a peep, cheered on the beat down of anything OWS,  supported woman having to undergo an unnecessary, and humiliating procedure.....but talk about banning high capacity magazines and.....well, them's fightin' words.

      Bunch inconsistent, disingenuous a**holes.

So they are to "TAKE THIS OBLIGATION FREELY" on threat of not graduating HS if they don't.

Taking a mandatory oath is the same thing as "taking this obligation freely" on pain of not getting your high school diploma? That's just plain nonsense.  I'd refuse, then find some way to get around it.

A college I attended years ago had a mandatory "social enrichment" program that I thought was bull[poo]. Since I was getting my second degree from the place and half my credits for that degree were earned getting the first one, I pointed out that my studies began before the program was instituted, and therefore, I should be exempted. The woman running the program wouldn't budge. The Dean of Students office didn't see it that way.

The US should sell AZ, NM, and TX to the Mexican drug cartels.

I'm sure they have the money, and then those clowns will live in a land with more guns than they can shake a stick at.

Getting your panties in a wad that the Arizona legislators want students to take an oath that is roughly the same oath that the Army takes, or that politicians take?

As a REQUIREMENT for graduation?  That's absurd.  Nobody has to join the army or run for politics.  If you've gone to school and completed the required courses, then you've done what is required to graduate.  You have to take an oath to the nation?   I thought these were the same people who hate the federal Dept of Education?   They want the school systems to be as local as possible but you have to take a FEDERAL oath?

      These people are nuts.

Yeah, taking the oath in order to graduate in order to be able to make a living is totally comparable to taking the oath in order to serve in the Army....

That oath sounds suspiciously close to the oath that someone recites when they enter the military.

What are they trying to achive? I wonder what would happen if someone who refuse to take the oath?

Yeah, todays' AZ Republican is a Bible-thumping nationalist (that hates the federal government) who is sure that Goldwater fella was a pinko.

But they've been crazier than ****************house rats for more than a couple of decades.....

    March 1989:

Then Arizona's right-wingers slipped a resolution through the state GOP convention declaring the United States to be under the rule of Jesus Christ, ''the King of kings and the Lord of lords.''

Yes, you're correct. Brainwashing and indoctrination are to be the sole domain of the collectivist progressives. Pretty uppity of them 'Publicans to horn in. Especially when it involves knowing and understanding the US Constitution and it's role in American society.

It would be a lot easier to advance the collectivist progressive agenda if they'd just shut up about that damn old piece of paper.

If Arizona does institute its requirement that all high school graduates sign that "pledge of citizenship" or what ever that thing is, it will ultimately be meaningless nonsense. Here's why:

        1. High school kids will sign anything if they think they can get something out of it.
        2. They aren't usually all that careful to read what they're signing, assuming they look at it at all.
        3. As my old college Philosophy professor and the fictitious Army doctor and iconoclast, Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce both pointed out, if you're a "commie" or some other kind of anti-American, you will not hesitate to sign a "loyalty oath," even if you have no intention of abiding by it. How better to hide in plain sight?

Ultimately, this "loyalty oath" will be just another worthless piece of paper in a bureaucracy that is more concerned with appearances than achievements. Those students may as well sign a McDonald's menu, for all the good it will do.

Let us just get down to cases.  Does an oath make a soldier any more patriotic? No.  Does an oath make a politician any more partriotic?  Apparently not.  Why have them take an oath at all?

Yes a student should be very aware of the duty the country has to them and vice versa.  The Constitution should also be taught in the classroom.

Let me just pick, out of my ass, a few duties a person has to the country: pay taxes, obey laws, register for the draft if male.
