  • Government outrage of the day

Did you know that in most U.S. states, the privilege of changing your last name due to marriage is limited to women?

This poor dude is entangled in a DMV wrestling match because of knuckle-dragging, government morons:

Current global warming temperature trend: 0.05ºC per decade, plus or minus 0.1ºC (source: UN IPCC AR5) ...Yes, the error rate is higher than the estimated rate of change.

"Anthropogenic global warming is a proposed theory whose basic mechanism is well understood, but whose magnitude is highly uncertain. The growing evidence that climate models are too sensitive to CO2 has implications for the attribution of late-20th-century warming and projections of 21st-century climate. If the recent warming hiatus is caused by natural variability, then this raises the question as to what extent the warming between 1975 and 2000 can also be explained by natural climate variability." --Dr. Judith Curry, chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology

I doubt that.  He's already a year into the experience and has legal representation.  His most recent hearing was two weeks ago, during which the DMV declared they are sticking to their ruling.

      Idiots.

Oh, the dubious joys of government buracracy and the phrase, "but we've always done it this way." I hope he wins his case.

He won.  Just saw a follow up that the DMV has now formally relented.

The realities of life in our modern age:  A lawyer accurately quoting the Constitution has little real chance against the government.  A publicist, on the other hand, can get you results.

The title of this thread should be, "Daily Dose of Florida's Insanity" rather than a swipe at government.

That would fit if the insanity was limited to Florida.  Unfortunately, this kind of brain-dead behavior happens just about everywhere.

I had a couple of friends that had been living together for about 6 years in W.Va. When they got married, the wife hyphenated their last names and the husband was told that he'd need a court order to do the same. They're not married anymore, but the State's policy isn't right.

I am for traditional marriage, where it's between a man and a woman and the woman takes the man's last name.

It's a slippery slope from a man taking the woman's last name to a man marrying a goat.
