Navy: Lincoln refueling delayed, will hurt carrier readiness

The aircraft carriers USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77), USS Enterprise (CVN-65), USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) are in port at Naval Station Norfolk, Va. US Navy Photo

The U.S. Navy will delay the refueling of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) for an unknown period because of the uncertain fiscal environment due to the ongoing legislative struggle, the service told Congress in a Friday message obtained by USNI News.

Lincoln was scheduled to be moved to Huntington Ingalls Industries

LOL @ stupid conservatives who think they can shrink spending without shrinking the economy.

You can't have it both ways.   Either you want to cut spending or you don't.

And if you want a giant military, then step the **************** up and pay for it.  Be responsible.

Isn't it funny how Visconti gets so upset over budget cuts without admitting that the "fiscal cliff" and most of the nation's other financial problems are the result of recalcitrant Republicans who won't negotiate with "liberals?" You would think he'd put blame where it is due, but apparently he forgot who's guilty.

      Forgot? He never knew.

Do we really need 11 carrier battle groups to defend this country?

Considering only 4 or 5 are deployed 4 or 5 are in some sort of maintenance availability, and the remaining in training or in port, maybe.

Ned: I tend to believe they exist not for national defense, but for global defense and projection of power.

Reduced by half and our national defense wouldn't suffer a bit.

That's about the only time I've ever agreed with you. The lone superpower feels a need to police the globe. It costs money and it's nowhere in our Constitution. It probably comes down to wealth more than anything. We are a corporate empire, operating under the umbrella of the U.S. military.

Just be glad the positions of the U.S. and some other countries aren't reversed, like, China on top and the U.S. just starting to build a navy. It's conceivable that the whole world would be under Chinese military-enforced servitude if that were the case. I don't have much good to say about Russia either.

That's irrelevant in the context of a ship's physical security. That's for diplomats to figure out.

And when you're talking about a religion that considers it's duty to spread by the sword, who cares "why" they want to kill us.
