  • Texas teen sues parents to stop them from forcing her abortion.

A pregnant Texas teenager is suing her parents to stop them from forcing her to abort her unborn child.

Click2Houston reports a judge issued a temporary restraining order to prevent the abortion while the case is ongoing.

The 16-year-old, who is identified only by the initials R.E.K. because she is a minor, claims in the lawsuit her parents are coercing her to abort her 9-week-old fetus through both verbal and physical threats and harassment.

"(The father) stated he was going to take her to have an abortion and that the decision was his, end of story," a copy of the lawsuit obtained by Click2Houston says.

The lawsuit claims R.E.K.'s parents kept her home from school, took her phone and car and that she, the father of her child and the child's paternal grandmother have been harassed by her father. It also claims R.E.K.'s mother suggested she was going to slip her daughter the abortion pill.

R.E.K is being represented by attorney for the Texas Center for Defense of Life.

"...She is legally protected. They cannot drag her to get an abortion, force an abortion on our client," attorney Stephen Casey told Click2Houston.

Under Roe v. Wade a woman has a right to decide whether she wants an abortion and under Bellotti v. Baird a teenager has the right to make her own decisions concerning her reproductive health.

here she would be considered an emancipated minor.

        Pro-Choice means pro-CHOICE!

This father is attempting to violate that.  I can't imagine Planned Parenthood not standing up for the girl's RIGHT to choose.

This is one issue the Pro-Life and Pro-Choice adherents should agree on--you cannot and should not be able to FORCE any woman or girl to have an abortion.

Same as in Texas...she has only to apply, same as any other state.

Yeah. Kick a 16 year old girl with a newborn out on the street. That'll really help. Great idea.

Not exactly the best idea. On the other hand, she has already made it clear that she is going to do what she wants, and that includes lawyering up to get her parents to stfu.

The parents have come up with a solution. The daughter refused it. It's not like she is being kicked out. By refusing to get an abortion, she made a choice. Sometimes, we have to live with the choices we make.

Who knows, in a month she will change her mind. But really, you can't let a girl do whatever she wants with no responsibility.

It seems that the right wing is in a bit of a pickle on this one.

On one hand, they are staunch advocates for parents having decision making powers over their kids when it comes to not allowing the kids to have an abortion, or to not have access to contraception, or to not be exposed to sex education.

Now it seems that the right wing doesn't care for parental decision making power anymore.

no, the RW is not in a pickle.

they would not drag her to get an abortion. it's the libs that would do that.

it's a lib honor killing, simple.

any mom and dad would get pissed off if that happened to their daughter or even if their son knocked some gal up.

        family is a bitch.

i think everyone will calm down soon and figure things out.

if they still want to abort, all the kids have to do, is get married.
