  • TRENDING: Republicans stall Hagel nomination.

"I regret that Republican senators, except the valiant four, chose to filibuster the nomination," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on the Senate floor. "Republicans have made an unfortunate choice to ratchet up the level of destruction here in Washington. Just when you thought things couldn't get worse, it gets worse."

There is very little gov't right now.  Checks and balances does NOT mean you stop the other party from dong anything. It means stopping bad choices from happening. People who have a D after their name apparently makes them a bad choice. I am so damn sick and tired of repugs it's not even funny. I totally support Obama writing executive orders as much as he likes. He's taking control away from the four year old repugs. They need to learn to pick their battles a little more carefully so they can maintain some of that control. Repugs are burning their bridges. Not exactly playing very smart.

If you noticed, the final vote for cloture was 58-40, in part because after it was clear they were one vote short of cloture, Reid changed his vote to "NO", thus only 58 votes.  This is a parliamentary trick that allows him to raise it again (Bob Dole used it all the time--one of the reasons he was so good at being Majority Leader, best since Lyndon Johnson).  However, John McCain, despite his posturing, chickened out (what else is new?) and voted against cloture. His one vote could have brought  Hagel's nomination to an up-or-down vote.

Do confirmation hearings mean absolutely nothing?  Are they simply dog and pony shows?

Hagel performed horribly in the hearing.

    "GOP... America's Terrorists."  You're dumb...

The GOP is filibustering Hagel because the think he is not a friend to Israel ans is soft on Hamas.

      OK.

Now let's play the quote game. Who said this...

"They ( Hamas) have done some good things, even as a terrorist group. They are like the Salvation Army with loaded guns."

Who said this abomination? Was it that traitor Hagel? Or was it one of the guys filibustering his nomination?

I wonder how anybody would "perform" under these circumstances.  You come in, prepared to speak to the responsibilities of the job you have been nominated to, and are asked a wholes series of questions that have nothing to do with that job.  Objectively, the Senate looks like the under performer.  Does anybody have any idea what Hagel will do managing the Pentagon?  Certainly nothing was asked in that line.

hagel doesn't have any idea, how he will run the pentagon.

he is not gunning for a CPA position.

people need to know what and how he thinks.

better they find out now, than later.

I don't think anyone (of either party) has ever filibustered a SecDef nominee.

Tube- this sort of behavior happens every time the power shifts between parties.

And yeah both parties are hypocrites, but everyone already knows that and apparently doesn't care.
