My daughter & son-in-law have one of those; I didn't care for it. I grind my own beans & perc in a conventional coffee-maker.

To each their own, of course.

Unless you use the refillable, those things are pretty wasteful.

Of course, I have the feeling that Hoddy sees that as a benefit...

      Hoddy,

You know I have no problem being rough on people and I don't want to be...but...

      It's just a coffee pot.

Thanks...it's been a very harrowing 48 hours...but our family pulled together and we persevered and overcame these hardships...it has made us a much closer family!

Same here.  I hope that no Minnie Mouse puppets were hurt in the ensuing rage against the coffee machine.

I'll remember that next time I have quarter of an hour to waste and fancy some salty coffee.

Hard to believe folks spend that much for coffee makers and coffee....but to each their own.

A large can of Folgers is about 5 cents a cup.

They use Folgers here at work; I don't care for the flavour.

The large plastic containers do make good shooting targets, though, and are easy to pick up after the shooting. I also use them to store cases in. I use one to keep my gun-cleaning solvents & gun oils in, too; it seals well enough to keep the vapours in.

From my POV Folgers is overpriced even at that.

Flavia packs from Mars run about $.56/cup. Brewers from Flavia are insanely expensive but on eBay they run from $30-$60.

Red: My coffeemaker cost $20 and comes from Fred's. Works well with Folgers and other non-pretentious coffee.

You're right about one thing: You don't have to be pretentious to have good coffee.  During the blackout I made coffee with a plastic Melitta funnel, an older version of this that still costs only $2.99:

Makes just as good coffee as expensive machines, better if you are practiced using it, just slower.

While I DO like coffees that run $14-$16/lb, you can get fresh beans you like at your local supermarket.  If I like the way the beans smell, I'll like the way the coffee tastes. If they smell stale or burned the coffee will taste that way.

If all else fails, sealed bags of un-ground Dunkin Donuts coffee is definitely drinkable.

And STILL better than anything in a K-Cup.
