In many cases, this is correct. Go to a developing country like India or the Philippines and you will see many children that are, indeed, hungry. But they are kept out of schools and eventually jobs that would feed them because quite frankly, they have no value aside from their ability to beg for money.
I was recently in the Philippines and had to say "no" to a bunch of kids that were obviously hungry. Yet, it would simply be perpetuating a cycle of poverty that put them in that position. Their parents will not allow them to go to school because they don't come home with pesos every day from the Joes that they beg from.
The Catholic church spends millions of dollars in Central and South America and Africa, as well as elsewhere to a lesser degree, fighting family planning, birth control and even condoms for protection from A.I.D.S. and other STDs.
