  • The two greatests deterrents to attacks

    1. Nuclear weapons.

    2. An armed populace.

America has both. Now stop bitching.

Close all foreign bases. Leave Iraq (we're still there, guys) and Afghanistan.

    Immediately cancel all this ****************:

I get the point but there are a few flaws in the argument. Namely.....

    USS Cole

    Tim McVeigh

    Unabomber

    Twin towers

      This.

Its unrealistic to think the worlds sole superpower can simply shove its head in the sand.

Trouble will come find us, I guarantee it.

The Cole was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The rest were domestic attacks that could not be prevented using military force unless we declared martial law.

One happened on foreign soil. One was a clear act of terrorism due to meddling in foreign affairs. The other two were domestic terrorist acts. Correct?

Which of those are a threat to the US as a nation-state? None.

And I'm willing to bet the more important issue here is that, not criminal acts.

Number one makes number two irrelevant. With nukes there will never be an invasion. That's why Iran wants them.

The military now serves a different purpose than it once did. It's now an issue of protecting overseas corporate interests and the national economy. Military-industrial complex, indeed. We are in trouble.

Nuclear weapons don't protect from a cross-border invasion, unless whoever is in charge wants to kill a large number of American citizens in the process.

Actually, the two could go hand in hand:

Problem is, if we close those bases, someone else is eager and waiting to fill the void.

You and your type are too naieve to understand what that kind of shift in power would cause.

Smart man like you could fill in the blanks. If you're up to it.

      lol

Who? China, and their massive SOLE foreign outpost in the Indian Ocean? Russia?

The reverse domino theory. It's dead.

No one is moving into Eastern Europe or Japan, or even South Korea.
