  • Same-sex Marriage: Years from now people will look back and......

Years from now our kids and grandkids will look back in disbelief at a time in this nation's history when same-sex marriage was illegal, just like the way most of us look back to when marriage between races was illegal.

UNdoubtedly. It'll be the same over here. And similarly, no matter what the Chicken Littles try to claim now, the world won't have ground to a halt. Lackofshrugemoticon

I think it is more a case of challenging the thousand year conception of perversion.

I wonder if three men or three women or a dozen mixed-gender individuals will be fighting for the right to marry like gay and hetero couples do?  And how will they split insurance, benefits, and government entitlements among a dozen people anyway??

Truth and falsehood were bathing. Falsehood came first out of the water and dressed in Truth's garments. Truth, unwilling to take those of falsehood, went naked.

20 years from now a man will look at his wife and go "You're a pig".

And it will really be a pig.

Are gays men, bisexuals, lesbians or transgendered people arguing is support polygamy at the Supreme Court, or are you simply trying to deflect by invoking a slippery slope argument?

Where in Prop8 is the support of polygamy mentioned?

And what makes you think that? Just because the gays are the left's version of a protected class of people?

That's the only thing I can figure. but sorry, your protected classes are fairly new in the historical framework of things. Most of human history is composed of oftentimes violent opposition to people that don't toe the socially acceptable line.

And gays just dont do that. Never have, and never will.

Unh,,,they have relationships with people they love. The 'socially-acceptable line' is frequently moronic and reactionary, as in this case.

I don't know what you mean by "protected classes", but the reason that I think that is because throught history America has always moved toward inclusion, and away from exclusion.  Interracial marriage and the end of segregation was the last big issue and it's weird now to think there was a time in our history (1962 in Mississippi) when an interracial couple could not marry.  It will be the same with same gender marriage, too.

Why dont you and your lefties make a case for gay marriage, and convince your fellow Americans, so they can vote for it?

Why do you want it to go through the courts?

Was straight marriage the result of popular vote?

          1. Why dont you and your lefties make a case for gay marriage, and convince your fellow Americans, so they can vote for it?

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered and Questioning people fall in love just as straight people fall in love and want to make lifetime committments to each other the way straight people do. Why should straight people be the only ones allowed to form a loving marriage relationship? Aside from about two lines from the book of Leviticus and a great deal of religious bigotry, of course.

          2. Why do you want it to go through the courts?

Why should the topic of gay marriage have to be dragged through the courts in the first place? If religious fundamentalists and anti-gay fanatics would just let people live their own lives their own way -- so long as they don't hurt anybody -- this would be a non-issue. But the reactionaries who call themselves "conservatives" in this country won't allow that to happen any more than they would allow African Americans the same rights as whites. It took the Supreme Court and several acts of Congress to give legal equality to African Americans. Thanks to the stubborn, bull-headed, idiotic thinking of those same "conservatives," it seems everyone from women to the GLBTQ group -- and others -- are having to fight the same battles all over again.

Now how about giving me one good reason that each and every ethnic, religious, national, sexual orientaion and other "special" group has to do this. If it wasn't "NO IRISH NEED APPLY" in the 1800s, it was "NO [N-WORD]s WELCOME HERE" in the first half the 1900s. Now it's "NO FAGS / LEZZIES / BISEXUALS / TRANNIES / OTHER SICKO S ETC. WELCOME HERE" in the 2000s. And then there are the "ILLEGAL MEXICANS" etc. who "DON'T BELONG HERE."

          See a pattern?

When will this cycle of picking a group to villainize and forcing that group to re-fight the Civil Rights battles all over again stop? Why can't we have one, all-encompassing Equal Rights law to cover everyone?

Or would that strain your intellect and deprive you of your way of "feeling superior" to those who are in many respects better people than you?

because rights aren't up for a majority vote

what do you think would happen if a simple majority vote was taken to ban firearms, and the vote went for the banning of all guns?

would that decision be accepted, or would it be taken to court?
