Members Sgt. Rock
Does signing a contract from a venue automatically mean you have to pay income tax on your earnings when you perform?
Moderators daddymack Posted October 24, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 24, 2012 In a word, no. The contract itself does not define what you pay taxes on; the 1099 form does.
Members scarecrowbob
Dunno where you live, but in the US, if you earn it, you pay federal income taxes on it. Contracts don't have much to do with it, though if you're giving someone a w-9 and getting more than $600 you should expect them to file a 1099-misc reporting that income at the end of the year both to you and the IRS.
