Members lillian9
South African Guy Buttery is an extraordinary acoustic guitarist. His latest recording, simply titled GUY BUTTERY, is mostly-instrumental (guest wordless vocals on two tunes) combining world-fusion, new age, African folk, avant-garde, ambient and groove-driven psychedelia. I kid you not. This is one of those albums that has to be heard to be believed with every tune sounding a bit different that the others. But his envelope-pushing talent cannot be denied. While he mostly plays acoustic guitar, he also adds mbira African thumb piano to two tunes, plus what he calls “psychedelia” and “ambient zen” to a few tracks, and those are apt descriptions. Some might claim he has been out in the South African sun too long, but he would insist he has been sitting in the shade of the wild fig tree coming up with these outlandish, but delicious musical ideas. There is picking and plucking of stringed instruments that make you shake your head in wonder, but also beautiful finger-picking that would not sound out-of-place on albums by John Fahey or Will Ackerman (the latter guitarist makes an appearance here on one tune). Hope you enjoy!
