How much per person is your NYE venue charging?

We're playing a small bar/restaurant(100 people max) NYE that is charging $20.00 per person. I believe we get a $500.00 guarantee, half the door, and a bar tab. They are going to have some "free" sliders/small burgers and champagne available at midnight. We're are all over 40 and play as hobby. We play mostly 80's "alternative" (REM, The Cure, INXS, The Cult, Social Distortion, etc.) and have a good following.

We're playing at a guy's barn, out in the KOUNTRY, yeehaw! :) We should rename the band "the Barn-Burners", IMO.

Actually it is a barn-shaped structure with concrete floors, the weather is going to be perfect (about 60) and the gig is as low-key and "just folks" as you can get- free beer, whiskey, and barbecue along with other "comps" I won't go into. They are also supposed to put us up somewhere so we don't have to get on the roads.

I have no idea how much it will pay, I just show up- to date they have never shorted me or treated me unfairly. However, I do not expect the usual $300+ that I usually get for NYE gigs (record for me was $450 at a casino).

EDITED: The host is not charging anybody a dime- they are all neighbors, friends, and people who work for him.

we are doing "Frist Night." Yep, An alcohol free gig in the downtown area of our hometown. There are a bunch of different venues with entertainment on the main street and others in the downtown area. We are one of the two "big" musical groups that are being promoted. The other is an amazing TSO cover band. The buttons you must wear to get into the venues are $8 each I think and we are getting paid VERY well by the city. :thu:

Our last set ends around 11:10pm and we are going to pack up like crazy people and get back to our singer's house for a party at midnight.

Wedding tonight. My favorite NYE gig. I really hate playing NYE in bars... total amateur night. The people that come out to see us throughout the year stay away from expensive packages or wind up doing house parties (smart since PD's and DWI checks are everywhere). The people who are out, it's their one and only night of the year. They get the babysitter, get dressed, dance all night and love the band... then you never see them again. They fade away until the next New Years. At least a wedding we'll earn double our normal rate and get some referrals.

I remember our first 'upcharge' NYE gig several years ago though. It was a large club/restaurant that we frequently played. Instead of a cover and drink packages he ran expensive dinner packages... $75 open bar, and $250 per couple for dinner and open bar. The feedback from our following was immediately negative. No one was going to spend that on New Years. We relayed this to the club manager and he brushed it off. True enough none of our following was there, They had maybe 120 people, all complete strangers which was far less than a normal night. I pulled aside our bass player before our 2nd set and we predicted the manager would be upset with the turnout. Instead he came right over, pulled out an envelope of cash and paid us in full before the 2nd set began. We asked him how everything was going. His words 'Terrific'. We ended up only playing a short 3rd set as people began to leave after midnight. Later we did the math and figured... he grossed $15,000, paid us $2K, had fixed costs for food and staff... the guy was practically clicking his heels as we loaded out.

I'm expecting a number of regulars to walk into our venue, and say to themselves, "Oh, it's New Years? Far out!"

I am not sure what they are charging for a cover. When I talked to the owner yesterday, she let me know that all the tables had been reserved. Its a smallish bistro with excellent food. The city is holding a midnight a ball drop across the street, the weather is mild, so it should be a hopping night.

$25 pp for two hours of open bar, buffet, two hours of free pool, party favors, etc. However, most of the tickets were sold at a special promotional price of $20. $800 for the band.

Maybe 50 people were there and it turned out that we (the band) sold most of the tickets - all fans that drove an hour to come see us. Unfortunately, the venue did nothing to promote the event until a few days before and lost their shirt. At the end of the night, they tried to lie about how much we were supposed to be getting paid, until they were shown a cell phone with the relevant facebook conversation on the screen. Then they handed us $700 and tried to pass it off as $800 - until we counted it right there. Ummmm... no f'ing way. :cop:

Don't get me wrong - we would have gladly taken a reduction in pay had they just asked. There was absolutely no reason to be shady about it. That just pissed us off.

This is the same venue that I mentioned before about not paying their ASCAP/BMI fees. We wish them luck in the new year, but we have no plans to ever go back there.

Happy New Year, everyone! :D

You dodged a bullet in not getting totally shafted: any place that's going to try the things they tried on you, etc., is just as likely to pull a "Sorry, we have no money for you at all" game, IME.

I'm a teacher at their son's high school. They probably knew that I wasn't going to disappear into the ether. But that's just a guess on my part.

The sad thing is, for $25 I would have went to a club like that with all those items included and a good band playing. Great pricing and idea, bad execution.

Yeah, I think they could have packed the place had they advertised and put forth a little effort. I don't understand how someone can invest money in a business and think that it will run itself.

The venue we played (one of our regular spots) was charging $25 a head in advance/ $35 @ the door. They only had about a dozen tickets left at 7PM & those were long gone by the time we hit the stage. The cover included a champagne toast & Midnight buffet for the patrons

We got our usual NYE rate + free food & drink :thu::rawk:

Ours was a wedding, we didn't get double out normal rate, but we got our typical NYE fee. Also might have picked up another wedding gig in the process!!

We were all invited to the wedding reception, and wow it was GREAT!!!

Drinks were $2.50 which worked for me.

The place was jam packed all night. We were shoehorned into a tiny space near the door, in a high traffic area from the kitchen. We made it work standing elbow to elbow. On the upside, everyone coming or going got to hear us, and that helped fill the tip jar. The city did a ball drop and fireworks at midnight a block away. At 5 minutes till I announced the event and everyone piled outside to watch. The venue comped us dinner, drinks (I was DD, but the pomegranite tea was tasty), paid our fee and gave us each a $75 gift certificate. And to top off an excellent evening, the snowstorm held off so the roads were clear until I got everyone home.
