  • Black Metal...Consonance and Disonance

    Hey campers
I am finallt coming out of a dark period in my life and want to incorporate it into my music...
I actually found a bunch of 40 somethings who play black metal...they arent satanists or anything, they just like the music...

I am interested and was looking for pointers as to what I should be listening to, for influences...the music cant be ALL disonant, there has to me some melodic stuff to make the disonance more powerful...I cant just play tritones all the time...

I want to explore some dark material, and I want my music to relate to it
    My divorce is almost final!

You should post exactly this in Guitar Jam- there are a number of Black Metal aficionados there who will be able to suggest a lot of stuff you might like. Black Metal in particular can be super melodic so I don't think you'll have any trouble in that department.

what do you think of "Tsirhc" as a name for a black metal band??

Is your goal to name the band something that's not easily memorable or even pronounceable for most people?
I get what you're doing, but it's not necessarily obvious.
For cripe's sake, somebody buy that kid a freaking DICTIONARY already!

Perfect, and here is a logo already made!

Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

The show, no matter how retarded, must go on. This is why musicians drink so much, alcohol helps them cope with facts by enveloping their brains and auditory senses in a haze of thickly applied B.S.

It's ironic that Black Metal and Christian music have something in common- how many times can you sing about the same themes over and over and over and over.....
http://www.patcoast.com"The guy would be strumming along, singing the verse to “Margarittavile” and then he would hit his harmonizer pedal for the chorus. It went from sounding like a guy singing and playing guitar to sounding like the Stephen Hawkings trio."-Christhee68" the singer of my cover band used to find it funny to let out gaseous forms of vile hate and sadness that would make a plaster baby Jesus weep."- FitchFY

So black metal has classical influences, right? (the "melodic" part). And it also makes use of "keyboard" (ugh, how I HATE that term) players? Well damn, I might actually have a future in the black metal scene (Floyd Cramer style, of course). Any suggestions on the best of BM?

All the hipster kids love Wolves in the Throne Room.

But in all seriousness, what sort of black metal are you looking to do? There's kind of a loooot.
