We're back.... And rapidly evolving

So, we took a 3 month hiatus to have a baby. Last gig pre-baby was August 1, baby was born August 12th, first gig back was Nov. 1. Yes, Meagan was 8 1/2 months pregnant for our last gig, but it was a wedding we booked 18 months in advance and they wanted us to play. She did half of it on a bar stool, but it was still a great gig.

Anyway, coming back, we've changed. We're booked twice a month at casinos now through the middle of next year. Club gigs are, and will remain, few and far between. As a result, the songs we're learning is definitely changing. We still learn new tunes (Added All About That Bass and Shake It Off, both of which kill), but the majority of the tunes we're adding now are oldies. A lot of 50's stuff.... Elvis, Bill Haley, Aretha Franklin, etc. etc. And it's KILLING! Granted we're playing to an older crowd. But even the younger crowd loves it.

And we love playing it. You get to "stretch" a little. Guitar solos are both expected and appreciated. Even the occasional 8 bar drum solo or bass break down does well.

Anyway, we're having a blast. Probably by the 1st we're going to start marketing 2 bands. The Tricky Dickies will remain as is and there will be The Ford Fairlanes, that will be all oldies. Meagan's excited to wear 50's pinup dresses. Haha. Just waiting for our bassist to get an upright!

Welcome back and congrats on the kid! Mine is singing in the tub right now while I'm going in and out of the cold looking for the kitten she managed to let out earlier and try to retrieve it before the coyotes get it! Fun stuff!

. I know you've been wanting to do the rockabilly thing for a while now. Glad to see its working out for you!

one of the girls has been bugging me to learn Shake It Off, but I've been balking because we don't really have any gigs with younger audiences until next year some time. I'm thinking it will be over by then, but who knows?

Hey thanks. We're lucky. My mother in law lives close by, so we can get back to playing a couple times a month. As for Shake It Off, EVERYBODY loves that song. Old, young, black, white... It really doesn't matter. Probably the biggest reaction we got this past weekend.
