Members RoadRanger
Yeah' date=' but he's got an iPad, man....![/quote']Yah, I shoulda photoshopped that out - especially as it's in a Griffin Survivor Mil spec waterproof case . OTOH it actually had note-for-note transcriptions of the tunes on it . I did photoshop out the mic'd Ampeg SVT/8x10 off to the left.
Members trevcda
I'd say by far the "un-coolest" thing on that stage is those blue mic cables and the horrible way they're dressed. And what the hell is that mic on the stage supposed to be pointed at?

And what the hell is that mic on the stage supposed to be pointed at?I wasn't providing sound and the PA was "interesting" to say the least - but it was a 15 minute changeover multiband benefit thing so not the neatest . I suspect that mic was for a possible guitar amp on that side - I think we were the only band set up with the guitarist SL and bassist SR.
Members Vito Corleone
I thought at least half the reason you put a black cloth over the front of a drum riser was so you could tuck the cables underneath it?
Members Emory
Sorry guys, but you aren't being cool yourselves. Looking for what is uncool in others is not cool. Oops! Now I am being uncool. Members Vito Corleone
The worst part about the way the dude is dressed is that it almost certainly is his purposeful dressed-up-for-onstage outfit.

Members trevcda
Dork shorts and a birth control shirt. Which is exactly where this thread was intended to go. I think they'd look much worse if they were wearing skinny jeans, a black Death Cab for Cutie t-shirt and a pair of Chuck Taylors. Or a button up and jeans like they just got off work or something. So what's a guy to do? I'm not there yet, but when I get there I want to make sure I look "cool" to you guys and everyone else. I'm half kidding with this. The other half really wants to know what I should be wearing when I get there. @ Emory- Love that movie! "Look. I'd 'ad a lovely piece of fish and all said to the wife was..." Moderators Lee Knight Posted June 9, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 9, 2014 Anyone see the 2nd season of Orange is the New Black yet? One of the prison admin guys is revealed to be in a bar band. He looks great behind the bass. From bald and porn 'stash with a cheap suit to the "Gay Edge" as he's referred to. It's not that hard to look like a band. Or not if you don't want to. I'm still wondering about that OH placement!
Members Vito Corleone
It's not that hard to look like a band. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Sure it'd be stupid if you're an old fat guy and you're trying to look like you're in One Direction. But there are a ton of ways to look like you're "in the band" and ready to perform for the people who are there to see you perform regardless of your age, waist size or number of working hair follicles. Don't cop out and dress like Jimmy Buffett and use "well, it works for him" as an excuse to be lazy with your look. Re: the guy who asked "are they having fun?" Well, I certainly hope so. But they can have just as much fun being better-dressed too. And the audience might have more fun in the process. Every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man. As far as OH placement goes? I haven't a clue. Maybe that drummer really bangs the crap out of those things.....

I'm still wondering about that OH placement! That's the first thing I thought was odd about the picture too, is the overhead mic placement. It just doesn't make sense really;; kinda like a wannabe Glynn Johns style?? But the point of that style is to use one mic and avoid entirely phase issues, and the mic is usually higher and towards the back of the kit. I dunno. I guess whatever works. As far as the look? Eh, I dunno: I'd have to see how he performs first. Persona defines the look more than the shirt and hat. Maybe a little less purposeful of a look but, who knows, that may be "his look"....Better bring it musically I guess since it seems that "looks" are the first thing people "these days" seem to want to evaluate. Members wades_keys
The other half really wants to know what I should be wearing when I get there. Whatever your "in the zone/DGAF" stage persona demands you wear. I'm only half kidding as well, being on the far side of my 40's and dealing with RA in the knee and a big buncha gray. I try and color match with what the other guys wear; we do, I should say, but it's not entirely a "formal" process LOL. It kinda takes on a life of its own, a "character", and there are hats and all that stuff that kind of define that "character". Some people say "Rock that look". It's kinda like that I think. Anything but being and looking STIFF and FORCED. So back to "rock that look".

It was supposed to be a one-off hippy/folk/rock 30 minute set for a benefit but we might keep it goin' - got a couple more gigs offered if we want them, go figure LOL. Members RoadRanger
Is that kinda like the organ donors I've seen riding around in Massachusetts with their chin straps undone? Guess it's cool or somethin' like wearing your pants down around your knees .
Members TIMKEYS
The only semi-uncool thing I can see is the chin strap on the hat. Musta been windy... those sailing hats actually have a loop that's laced to where it goes under your chin and one that loops down by your neck. If they blow off from the front or the rear , you expensive lid doesn't end up in the drink. It works most of the time. I had my trusty tilly vented sailing hat go overboard the other day while sailing, but then I was out in 25 gusting to over 30 mph. The cool part was ,, I called a man overboard drill,,, and came about ,,, sailed back on the reciprocal heading ,,, came about again and came out on the original heading... and hooked it out of the bay with a boat hook, Text book perfect man over board drill.. Down here the sun is brutal so those hats are common with the locals. Tourists wear ball hats and get cooked. cool is one thing,,,, losing a 85 dollar hat is another. I got mine for 29 bucks on sale. I sure as hell don't want to lose it... so the chin strap gets used a lot. I blows like billy stink down here all the time.
Members pinkfloydcramer61
I think the man looks fine (which probably means he is an egregious fashion/coolness violater, coming from someone who goes out in public looking like Larry the Cable Guy). To me, short, white socks in warm weather say "I'm not stupid". You wear shorts to stay cool, so why ruin it by pulling dark socks up to your knees? Plus, as far as I can tell, his balls are entirely covered.
