Get Lucky is another one we do just a bit of in the course of a medley of stuff. Goes on way too long otherwise.

Speaking of competing with DJs, I find that medleys and mashups work great. Our sets largely consist of a few long medleys that run 12-15 minutes each.

Sorry to bring up a month old topic, I actually just posted for the first time in years because of this post lol this makes me so happy. I've played this in I think every band I've been in (even pulled it off in an outlaw country band ) We play it, it goes over super well some nights, and not as great others, but it's one of those songs that we are always "on" with and even if we are having an off set, it gets us in the groove (or at least that's how I justify keeping it in no matter what lol).

For new songs we've played Hey Brother, Counting Stars, Everybody Talks...all seem to go over pretty well.

In the last band I was in that ran for 10 years it took me about half that time to convince some of the guys that we should be doing medleys. when we started ostrich hat we were doing medleys right from the start. even if they are just 2-3 songs together it works better.

Get Lucky we do 2 verses 2 choruses then go into a bit of What Is Love by Haddaway.

        our medley looks like this:

        Get Lucky
        What Is Love
        December 63
        Moves Like Jagger
        What Makes You Beautiful

its around 15 minutes long and works well.

That's a really good medley. WIL is a song we messed with a bit, but it was one that ended up getting dropped before we fully worked it up (I hate it when that happens) and I've always wanted to revive it. December 1963 and WMYB are both songs I've always know would kill for the crowds we play for, but there's always been other songs that had higher priority. One of these days though!

We tacked Get Lucky onto the end of a medley that consists of our "Stayin' Alive/Another Brick In The Wall" mashup, into "Rapper's Delight" into "Good Times". It was an obvious choice since the whole Nile Rodgers deal on Get Lucky is essentially a re-write of Good Times. And GT often sagged for us just a bit, putting GL at the end of it not only re-energizes the medley, but helps to have it all make more sense to the audience I think.

But I think I might start messing around with WIL, December and WMYB and see what we can do with those three as a medley. Great songs all, but again, nothing there I want to spend more than a couple of minutes doing by themselves.
