Members StratGuy22
Sneak peek. Not wired up yet. Members StratGuy22
Ok boys. I shortened everything to a 10' truss, just to keep things simple. I'll debate whether it's better like this, or the other way. Without further ado. My new light rig. 6 - Blizzard Puck 3NX6 - Chauvet Pinspot 3604 - Chauvet Intimidator 1.0I have 2 more 3NX's for front duty, and 4 Fab5's on the way. I can see how the intimidators can be overwhelmed. I'll be looking into those new Blade moving heads in the new year. Or maybe something else. But it looks pretty good so far. Not hooked up to DMXIS yet. Using the Obey70 to run a simple chase. Anyway, talk is cheap...
Members bigjd
I really like my pinspot 360s. Such a simple fixture that works well. Looks good Strat.
Members StratGuy22
Thanks. It's really basic, the scenes so far. Mainly just getting everything up and running & under control. Next is DMXIS. Lol I keep saying that.
Members bigjd
Basic is good. Used to have a bunch going on all the time myself but it just got to where a few choice effects and good timing worked so much better when I was controlling it from stage. Members StratGuy22
Yeah, I'm thinking nice slow fades between colors for the most part, and some eye candy for the chorus, and the odd big finish. Get this foot controller going and see what happens. Don't want to over do it or it loses the flashiness Hopefully I can use restraint lol
Members bigjd
The thing I like about the SW I use is that it has beat detection. So I can set up my song sequences around the kick drum and feed it off a Aux out on my SL so it really automates the show for me. I actullay have a foot controller,MIDI controll from our drummers SPD-s and Beat detection all for control at the same time so I can control special effects in real time as well as auto stuff and my drummer can do whatever he wants to pester me when he feels the need. Been looking at DMXis. Just scored a Macbook Pro that works well for 100 beans that needs a new screen so I will be using that with my SL so a mac friendly SW for lights will be my next search. Freestyler now is supposed to have a Mac wrapper so it can run that way .If thats true I'll probably stay with it.
Members StratGuy22
Wouldn't it change too fast, with the kick drum?
Members bigjd
The detection is programmable. 12 beats or 30beats before a change. Really nice.

Members bigjd
That would be odd would't it. Guess I should have said you can change the number of beats that trigger a change in your lighting sequence. So it changes on 4,or you can set it to change on 24 or whatever you choose. Thats the reason I havent changed software, makes it easy to automate sequences in time to music.

Agreed!!However, I just discovered that there is a maximum number of presets allowed per bank...Did not expect that... I can save new presets in a bank, but, I can't access them unless I delete existing ones first...

Members StratGuy22
Ok, I sat down and figured out DMXIS. The main problem for me, was the difference in fixture assignment between the Obey70 and DMXIS. No problem after I figured that out. Here's a quick video. The room isn't deep enough to really get back far enough. I might change to the end of the room if I get ambitious enough.

Members Johnny Lightboy
nice.... just wait till you discover how cool it is using the oscillator controls on both the LED Pars and the movers/scanners... :-) BTW: I like the circluar pattern of the individual LEDs in those fixtures so much better than the silly snowflake pattern of those in mine... Members StratGuy22
Yeah the LED pattern of the 3NX was one of the main deciding factors. I wasn't crazy about the star pattern or the 9LED 3x3 box. I need a better fog machine. One that will really kick it out, along with DMX control. Next on the list is figuring out how to add a MIDI footswitch, and iPad control via TouchOSC
Members StratGuy22
Christmas came a day early. My four Fab5's arrived!! Stoked to use them for NYE! I have oscillators and the foot controller figured out. I'll have eight 3NX's on this truss instead of 6. One on each end. Got playing with the oscillators. I just did a static scene, then moving, then static, then moving etc. also got the foot controller working, but the iPad control still has me stymied. But that's ok for now. Now my rig is complete until I make enough to upgrade to 4 moving heads, and possibly 4 more 3NX's.
